Gene Autry Rode Straight Up

The Investors Business Daily, one of America's leading business and investing publications, gave a real nice nod to famed Cowboy Gene Autry in its April 4, 2007 issue.

The article, which Curt Schleier wrote, described Autry as "The Singing Cowboy [who] galloped from poverty to superstardom."

"Gene Autry felt a sense of responsibility to his millions of kid fans," Schleier wrote, "being a role model is 'a tough job sometimes. There are times when you fell like doing something, but you can't because you feel you must live up to your reputation. And the reputation I have for being a pretty square-shootin' guy, I wouldn't trade for anything. It gives me a lot of pleasure that young Americans look up to me as an example for their lives."

Gene Autry is the kind of hero many people wish as around today. I would highly recommend checking out the IBD article and, perhaps, even droping the IBD folks a thank you email for looking to a cowboy hero every once in a while as a great example of and American leader and success.
